Bath brooms are selling out. Preparation of brooms for a bathhouse as a business. Pros and cons of business on brooms

Business in the production of bath brooms- one of the least expensive production niches. It has serious prospects and allows you to provide yourself with high profits with minimal investments.

The bathhouse is perhaps one of the favorite places for any Russian. The relevance of such a business is great, and the demand for the services of bath complexes does not decrease even at the present time. And even though an analogue appeared in the sauna format, the bathhouse still arouses greater interest among citizens.

It is impossible not to note the healing properties of the bath - improving overall well-being, relaxation, and normalizing the emotional state. That is why the production of bath brooms as a business is not only profitable, but also a useful form of entrepreneurship.

Features of broom production

If an entrepreneur has never made brooms, then his first question will be - where to start his business, what nuances to pay attention to? It is better to open a business in the summer, because it is at this time that the trees turn green. Warm weather is the right time to harvest leaves and twigs for future brooms. Preparations have been made since the beginning of June.

It is important not only to collect fresh and green leaves, but also to prevent them from starting to dry out. If you want to collect as much “harvest” as possible, then you should involve hired employees in the work.

It is important to properly prepare the drying room. It should be spacious, with special temperature and humidity conditions, and have good ventilation. Compliance with storage conditions is the key to whether production will be profitable or not.

The uniformity of drying will also be important. To achieve the desired effect, you can go one of the following ways:

  1. hang brooms on ropes;
  2. spread on the floor, turning over at certain intervals (then the broom will additionally take the shape of a fan).

After drying, the brooms are put into bags and placed in a room with hay. It is important that it is dark and cool.

If an entrepreneur is still undecided whether to open a business in this area or not, he should pay attention to the following positive aspects of the idea:

  • Minimum investment. A novice businessman will not have to look for funds to open a business, much less take out a loan from a bank.
  • Demand. Due to its positive effect on health, the bathhouse is becoming even more in demand. In addition, this format of leisure allows you to have an interesting time in a pleasant company.
  • Availability of service life. This is especially true for large bath complexes, where brooms have to be changed at least once a day. If a person goes to the bathhouse, he always buys a new broom for himself, and does not use the old one.
  • Simplicity of the Sphere. An entrepreneur will not need to receive special education or make incredible efforts. The work of producing brooms is simple and accessible not only to adults, but also to teenagers.
  • High profitability and quick payback. Moreover, the income value is impressive even with small production volumes. Such an enterprise in itself cannot be unprofitable.
  • Availability. To make brooms you do not need any specific raw materials. You can find branches and leaves in any region of the country. And if you make brooms from nettles, then you can collect the raw materials right at your summer cottage.
  • Minimum equipment purchase costs. No high-cost specialized tools are required. And you can process brooms right on the spot or at home. The tools used in everyday life will be more than enough.
  • Receiving income in a short time. It takes no more than 1.5 weeks to dry the brooms, after which you can sell the products and make a profit.

True, such a business also has its drawbacks. The main disadvantage is that brooms can only be made for 1-3 months a year. However, the rest of the time you can only deal with their sale.

What kind of brooms should I make?

Even before starting your own business from scratch, you need to decide what kind of brooms to make. The greatest demand is:

You can make other types of brooms - from fir, eucalyptus and even all kinds of medicinal herbs.

Purchase of necessary equipment

We figured out the room - it should be well ventilated, dry, protected from sunlight. What kind of equipment will a novice entrepreneur have to purchase? If small production volumes are planned, the following tools will be sufficient:

  • an ax (it is better to choose a compact and light model that is convenient for work);
  • knife (it is important that it is as sharp as possible);
  • ropes or threads (for transporting raw materials to the place of drying, binding).

What else should you consider when starting production?

An entrepreneur must not only prepare the premises and purchase equipment, but also study the specifics of working in this area. It will also be important what kind of brooms will be made. Different types have their own time for collection, nuances of collection and drying. Without this, it will not be possible to produce high-quality products, and customer loyalty will largely depend on this.

When choosing storage space, it is important to find a place close to the collection of raw materials so that it does not cost a lot of money to transport it. And when working on a large scale, you will need a personal car to deliver products to consumers.

Features of selling brooms

The quality of the brooms is undoubtedly a decisive factor. But we must not forget about other production features. Even at the moment of collecting raw materials, you need to think about who to sell your goods to. The main consumers will be:

  • city bath complexes;
  • saunas;
  • health centers;
  • tourist resorts for recreation;
  • owners of cottages and private houses.

You need to work with such clients in a targeted manner, offering your services. If you can’t attract consumers, you can sell brooms at the city market or on the highway.

The most effective ways of promotion will be:

  1. placing advertisements on special boards on the Internet and in local newspapers;
  2. word of mouth (rumors will spread very quickly if the quality of the brooms is really good);
  3. mailing list and creating your own website (suitable for serious businessmen with large production volumes).

Financial indicators

The cost of one broom in a small town can vary from 100 to 150 rubles. The price will depend on the composition and quality. Even selling 30-40 brooms a day can bring in about 90-180 thousand rubles in a month. The costs will be insignificant - in the range of 20-30 thousand rubles. But you can open your own business with a capital of only a few tens of thousands. So it turns out that you can recoup your investment in the first month and actively start making a profit. The main thing is to pay attention to quality and work out sales channels.

Today magazine IQR will tell you about an interesting business that is accessible to every rural resident - making bath brooms for sale. Nature provides materials for making brooms free of charge (the main thing is not to catch the eye of the forester). So, no start-up capital is required for this business. At all. Only your desire to work and earn money. The hero of today's business case will tell you more.

How I got the idea to start selling birch brooms

Good day! My name is Artyom, I live in the city of Chelyabinsk. At the time I started my business (2013) I was 23 years old. Every season I sell bath brooms. But first things first.

After studying at the university, he ended up in a village called Russkaya Techa. I was looking for some ways to earn money. This was problematic, at that time there was no way to settle in the city, and Russkaya Techa was a small village. And no one needed a certified civil engineer here; the last building was built several years ago.

Once, while visiting the city, I saw my grandfather selling bath brooms on the street! After that, I googled what and how bath brooms are made from. I myself am not a bathhouse fan and have never used this device. I found a lot of articles, tips, and videos on how to properly make such a product. I chose, as it seems to me, the most practical option. After all, my main task was to make as many high-quality products as possible, and to do them quickly! Did more - earned more, simple arithmetic.

Upon arrival in the village, he began to actively engage in the manufacturing process. I drove deep into the forest, away from the highway and the river, which was polluted. The Techa River does not have the best history, to put it mildly. In the post-war period, the Mayak production facility dumped radioactive waste directly into this river. Moreover, in 1957, on the territory of the Mayak production association, an accident occurred, known as the “Kyshtym accident”. A container containing radioactive waste exploded. This led to a significant increase in radiation in the area.

Bath broom manufacturing technology

From the morning until 5-6, when it was already starting to get dark in the forest, I collected twigs from 40 to 60 centimeters long. And then I spent about two hours doing the actual production. I laid out the twigs and tied them (I saw the tying method on YouTube from “ulybays”).

Nauseously monotonous actions that make you more tired than when you collect twigs. It helped in my work if I mentally imagined that each tied bunch of twigs was worth 100 rubles. It was very helpful. The next step was to hang the future bath brooms on specially nailed nails in the barn. We managed to make about 30-50 brooms a day. And so every day, I rested during bad weather.

At first I made brooms from birch - due to inexperience, then I started making oak brooms. It turned out that the second process is easier, and oak brooms, to my surprise, are more expensive. Over the summer I made 1000 pieces, with no expenses other than the time spent. With the onset of autumn, it's time to sell your goods. At this time I was already living in the city again. In 4 flights I transported the entire shipment to the city. The journey one way took about two hours. I loaded it into the trunk and into the back seat of my car.

First profit

And now the moment of truth has come - the sale of goods. Taking several samples of his bath brooms, he visited the city bathhouse and offered the products to the director. She said that they already have their own supplier. Having found out the price at which the bathhouse buys brooms, I offered my own for 10 rubles cheaper and without any paperwork. The director couldn't resist.

As a result, birch brooms cost 30 rubles, and oak brooms cost 50 rubles. The total came out to about 46,000 rubles. This is a month of hard work.

I gained experience, drew conclusions, 46,000 rubles is still a small amount, considering that you need to deduct gasoline costs. In 2014, I set my sights on retail. I got a job as a courier for one company, saved up a small amount and repaired the balcony - paying special attention to the seams so that droplets of water did not get inside. I also started saving money for advertising, hoping to collect about 70,000 rubles by May, but at the start of the season I had a little less than 50,000 rubles on hand.

How much can you earn during a season of active work?

Around the end of May, I began to travel outside the city, away from the roads and the city. I filled the trunk and the rear of the cabin (I removed the back seat). Then he carried the load to his garage and there he worked on manufacturing, also drying it in the garage, hanging it on a stretched rope. The batch that I hung up a week ago was stored on the balcony. I worked according to this schedule.

Sometimes I bumped into forest rangers, the first time I had to part with 2,000 rubles, and then I made it a rule to always keep a bottle of cognac in the glove compartment of my car. After that, the foresters stopped noticing me point-blank.

Until July I made brooms from birch, and then from oak. Over the entire season, he collected 5,000 brooms, of which one third were birch. At the end of the season, out of 50,000 rubles, only about 10,000 rubles remained, the rest went to accommodation, gasoline and other expenses. In September, I got my old job as a courier. At the same time, I printed an ad and started posting it at bus stops. I received 30,000 in a month, spent it on advertising, and gave 25,000 for advertisements in local newspapers.

Sale of bath brooms

He sold birch brooms for 70 rubles, and oak brooms for 130. The main marketing ploy was the “free home delivery” service. It was pleasant and convenient for people to receive bath brooms delivered to their homes. Word of mouth began to bear fruit. On average, bath attendants ordered 10-30 pieces. Delivered after work, in the evening.

In general, birch brooms were sold for 105,000 rubles, oak brooms for 455,000 rubles, total: 560,000 rubles. I counted the expenses at about 100,000 rubles. Net profit for the season is 460,000 rubles. Divide by the three months that I collected them, it turns out 153,333 per month. What other job in the village will pay you 150 thousand?

I have created a schedule. 4 months a year I work in bath brooms, and the remaining 8 months I work in various companies. At the moment there is an online store and a base of regular customers. This allows us to maintain the sales level of 4-5 thousand brooms per year.

Pros and cons of business on brooms

I’m racking my brains about how to expand; there is an option to hire people for the season to harvest and supply brooms to neighboring cities. However, every year there are more and more competitors. I'm weighing up the pros and cons - whether it will work or not. The disadvantages are that there may be problems with the law, and you don’t want to bother with employees. It’s convenient for one - you work as you want. The advantages are, of course, expansion - more money. But, as I already said, in the off-season I get a job that comes along, this money is enough for expenses, and with the income from the sale of bath brooms I satisfy my more expensive needs, in particular, a good house and a good car.

On a good note, you would need to use the money you earn to open some kind of establishment, store, etc. While I’m looking for a good option, I plan to use the profit from next year into a business that suits me.

Is it difficult to start such a business from scratch?

I passed on the experience to my friend who lives in the village; they have 5,000 rubles a month. He makes bath brooms and then sells them wholesale in neighboring cities. He makes a living from this, he said that on average he earns about 300-400 thousand rubles per season. If 400,000 is divided by 12 months, it comes out to more than 30,000 rubles! With an average salary in the village of 5,000 rubles, this is fabulous money. He can afford a lot, unlike his neighbors. He says that he is very grateful to me.

If you have a lot of free time in the summer, this is a good option. You can also sell brooms at retail, but I would advise you to simply sell in bulk, as there are much fewer hassles and you get a profit immediately after selling the product, and not gradually, as in retail.

Difficulties you encounter while knitting brooms for sale: first of all, laziness - it is difficult to force yourself to do monotonous activities every day for a long time. We need premises with certain conditions. It is impossible to do this without a car, unless you live in a village located next to a forest. You have to work hard to get good money in the future. Competition again. However, if you make bath brooms conscientiously and serve your customers well, then you won’t be afraid of them.

This story can be regarded as a guide to action, that is, anyone can repeat it if desired. I will be glad if my story makes someone’s life better, changes it. Even the life of one person. I wish you success!

Home business preparing oak and birch brooms for a bathhouse. Timing for the preparation of brooms. How to sell brooms for a bath.

An oak or birch broom is an indispensable attribute of a Russian bath; brooms are very much in demand among those who like to take a steam bath in a bathhouse. In this article we will look at the idea of a home business - making brooms for a bathhouse.

Preparing oak brooms is not as easy as it seems at first glance; there are harvesting deadlines, storage conditions, and besides, for the same oak brooms you will need to go to the forest. If you have an oak forest nearby, then you have the opportunity to earn extra money by preparing and selling bathhouse brooms.

Timing for preparing brooms for a bath.

The harvesting of brooms is carried out at a certain time, so for oak brooms the harvesting period lasts from the beginning of May to June, during this period the young leaves are still small and the branches are flexible. Oak brooms can be prepared until August, but they will be tougher. Birch brooms are usually harvested only in July. For each region, procurement times may differ slightly; for example, in the southern regions of the country, procurement begins a couple of weeks earlier.

Harvesting should be carried out in dry weather, after the dew has disappeared. It is not recommended to prepare brooms after rain; the quality of the brooms will be worse.

To harvest, you will need a sharp knife or pruning shears; young branches 50–60 cm long are cut from the lower branches of trees and placed in wide bags.

To make one broom, about 20 branches are required; the branches are placed in the broom with one side so that the leaves are turned in one direction. You should get a flat broom with a front and back side.

The thickness of the handle should be approximately 5 cm, the handle is tied with nylon thread, the edge of the handle is cut off so that the branches have the same cut.

Ready-made brooms can be sold all year round; brooms can be packaged individually in nylon nets or non-sealed bags.

It is quite difficult to prepare brooms alone, but you can do this business with your whole family or together with relatives, and organize your own home business.

Approximate prices for oak brooms are as follows: - one good-quality oak broom, prepared according to all the rules, costs from 50 rubles. wholesale and from 100 rub. retail. Prices are approximate and may vary by region.

Wholesale buyers can be found on the Internet; you need to search on thematic forums and message boards. Wholesale quantities are usually about 100,000 pieces.

If you need to sell small quantities, then you need to deliver brooms to bathhouses and offer the goods to bathhouse owners, or you can hand them over to wholesalers in markets. Another option is to sell brooms online, place an ad on trading platforms and send brooms in packaging by postal services.

In any case, you can sell prepared brooms all year round.

Preparation of birch brooms for a bath video.

Many people love to take a steam bath in a Russian bath. This is not only pleasure, but also a very beneficial procedure for health. It is impossible to imagine a Russian bathhouse without a steam room and a birch broom. Business for the procurement and sale of birch brooms will always be in demand.

The leaves and buds of birch contain tannins, essential oils, vitamins A and C, and phytoncides. Birch brooms help get rid of joint and muscle pain, perfectly cleanse the skin, accelerate wound healing, have a calming effect on the body, and also improve mood.

At first sight broom selling business is seasonal. However, this is not quite true. If you can prepare a sufficiently large supply of brooms in the summer, you will be able to sell them all year round. As a rule, by the end of winter and spring the price of brooms increases.

It must be taken into account that there is a certain period for harvesting birch brooms. The Internet contains a lot of information on this issue, but at the same time there is a lot of inaccurate or contradictory information. Brooms need to be harvested in different regions at different times. Usually in Rus' they began to prepare brooms immediately after the holiday of the Holy Trinity until mid-July. The exact time of harvesting birch brooms can be determined by tasting the leaves. As soon as they stop being sweet and start to taste bitter, it’s time to prepare them. Another way is to take the edge of the leaf with two fingers and pull it towards you; if the leaf comes off along with the stem, then it’s too early, but if the leaf remains on the branch and only the edge of the leaf comes off, then it’s time to prepare the brooms. Brooms prepared at this time look fresh, are stored for a long time, and do not fall off. There should be no earrings on the branches. The time for knitting very high-quality brooms is only 2-3 weeks, but in general, you can knit brooms until the leaves turn yellow.

To prevent the leaves from darkening and falling off during storage, it is better to cut branches in dry weather: leaves wetted by rain or morning dew will curl and quickly deteriorate. Experienced harvesters take branches growing in the middle height of the tree - they are the most flexible. The branches in the lower part of the tree, as a rule, are coarser and protruding, while in the upper part they are slender, but somewhat harsh. In order not to cause much harm to the trees, it is better to take branches not from one, but from several trees.

Stiff branches are placed inside; they will form the basis of the broom and allow it to maintain its shape. The softest and most flexible branches with abundant foliage are placed on top of the hard ones, as if wrapping them around the frame. Having folded the broom correctly, form its handle, clearing the lower branches of excess leaves and side shoots. Usually the length of the handle is about 10-15 cm, which allows you to firmly tie the broom in two places with a rope. It is better not to tie with wire, because... it burns your fingers, and the ends of the wire can injure your hand. The broom length is usually 40-60 cm.

There are several ways to dry brooms, but a mandatory condition is not to dry them in the sun, since in the sun the leaves lose their aroma, curl into tubes and burn out, and quickly fly off after steaming. The best option is to dry and store brooms in a cool, dark, dry, ventilated area, hanging or folded. A dressing room or attic of a bathhouse, as well as a balcony, garage, and closet are ideal for these purposes. Sometimes brooms are dried in a haystack (who has such an opportunity). To do this, the brooms are placed with the leaves inside the stack and the handles outside. In this case, the broom takes on a fan-shaped shape.

Practice shows that in a day one person (with some experience) is able to tie at least 100 brooms. If we are talking about preparing high-quality brooms for a discerning buyer, then you will be able to knit much fewer brooms in a day. At the same time, if you knit brooms for sale yourself, you won’t earn much money. Firstly, you won’t be able to impose too many brooms; secondly, the period for harvesting brooms is not that long. However, as always, there is a way out of the situation.

Around almost every city there are many settlements, towns, and villages whose residents are without work because it simply isn’t there.

You can organize the purchase of birch brooms from the rural population and sell them in the city.

To implement this idea, transport will be required. A Gazelle with an awning, a minibus, or just a passenger car with a trailer will do. In order not to make trips in vain, you can stick up advertisements in advance in those settlements that you plan to visit about the planned purchase of birch brooms. It is necessary to indicate the date of purchase, place, time/period of time, price for one broom. You can indicate the basic requirements for the broom (already dried/fresh; length, thickness of the handle, length of the handle (cleared of branches), etc.). A color photo of a real broom as a sample would be helpful. In general, you need to take into account that the population will simply carry a bunch of birch branches tied with a rope, asking for money for it. Through experience, you will eventually find conscientious suppliers with whom you will work in the future. You can deal with low-quality brooms simply - if the branches are fresh, then buy them at a lower price and then tie them into high-quality brooms.

It remains to decide on the sales market. The main channels are baths and saunas (both municipal and commercial). Most likely, they already have their own proven suppliers - but here the laws of competition come into force. You can offer brooms of better quality, or a lower price. You can try selling brooms to stores.

You can also sell brooms to individuals by placing an ad in a local newspaper or on a website you visit on the Internet. There are more and more private baths every year. If the business expands successfully, an excellent option would be to enter the sales markets of another region that is not very rich in forests.

The price of brooms in baths and saunas ranges from 50 to 100 rubles and more. On average, the price of a broom in winter is at least 70 rubles.

What price to set when buying brooms is up to you, depending on the place of procurement, and the price at which you can sell the brooms. Somewhere, even for 10 rubles, they will force you as many brooms as you can take away; somewhere, even for 25 rubles, they won’t be very willing to carry them.

A price that is too low will scare off potential suppliers; a price that is too high will reduce your profits.

To set an adequate price for purchasing brooms, if there are no competitors, you can focus on the prices for purchasing berries. For example, you know that in this village they buy berries at a price of 80 rubles per liter. And people are willing to rent. However, to collect a liter of berries, you will need to walk 3-5 km to the forest and back (about 1-2 hours), and spend about an hour collecting 1 liter of berries, carefully feeding the mosquitoes. Total labor costs are about 3 hours. In three hours, a person is able to tie approximately 20-30 birch brooms, including a trip outside the village gardens to the nearest forest. Thus, it is much more profitable to put on 30 birch brooms in 3 hours, and sell them at 10 rubles per broom for a total amount of 300 rubles, than to spend 3 hours picking berries and earn only 80 rubles.

The key point in this business- This sale (sale) of birch brooms. There is no need to be greedy, give in on the price (within reason, of course), and all your efforts will be rewarded.
